Stop D.W.I.
The Addiction Institute of New York STOP D.W.I. Treatment Program is a structured, short-term treatment service designed to help an individual eliminate recurrent episodes of driving motor vehicles under the influence of alcohol or other drugs. The program is geared to meet the needs of the mandated and often very resistant client. An initial evaluation assesses the level of substance use and impairment. Group counseling and psychoeducational groups are the primary modalities of treatment. Services are conducted both in English and in Spanish. Groups meet twice a week for a period of 3 months during evening hours. Individual counseling sessions are scheduled throughout the core program.
Aftercare and relapse prevention groups
are available upon completion of
the core program for those requiring a longer course of treatment. Attendance
at self-help recovery groups, random urine drug screening and breathalyzer
testing are also required elements of the treatment program. Patients
involved in the STOP D.W.I. Program are also eligible to receive other
supportive
services such as parenting skills, assertiveness training, stress management,
vocational counseling, basic education, General Equivalency Diploma,
and college counseling.
Naturally, all patients can access the full range of services provided
at The Addiction Institute of New York, as well as the medical and psychiatric
services of St. Luke's-Roosevelt Hospital Center.
